DON'T BOX ME IN - SKIN TYPE: PERFECTLY IMPERFECT
You think you know me Because I'm a woman, a man, a mother, single, under 20, over 30. You think you know me because my skin is dark or light, loves the sun or is sensitive, smooth or full of magical wrinkles that tell a story that I like to laugh and often. You think you know me, but you do not know me.
Personalities are not linear. They are contradictory and unruly, and that's what makes her adorable.
Different structures and pigmentations as well as different skin types make our skin unique - how we show ourselves, how we feel, how we live and how we care for ourselves. My skin type is: Perfectly imperfect!
Skin is never just “normal”. It breathes and feels, is our largest and most versatile organ - and the canvas of our incorruptible uniqueness. And our care needs, demands and goals are just as diverse as we and our skin are.
All those who believe that beauty can be categorized and pigeonholed have understood absolutely nothing. Especially not us. You don't know me. You don't own me. Don't box me in.
From the dermatological point of view
Despite our uniqueness, individual beauty and perfectly imperfect skin, we need patterns, guidelines and reference points by which we can classify different skin types.
This is how we can develop helpers such as special creams, toners and serums for common skin types or skin problems that make you shine - that is our claim.
From a dermatological point of view, healthy skin is divided into four skin types: normal, dry, oily and combination skin. Skin type is determined by genetic factors. However, the individual skin condition varies depending on internal and external factors affecting the skin.
- "Normal skin": The term "normal" is used in technical jargon for a balanced complexion.
- Dry Skin: The term "dry" is used for a skin type that produces less sebum, is tight, cracked or flaky. It lacks the lipids that prevent moisture loss and form a protective film against external influences.
- Oily skin: The term “oily” is used for a skin type that produces more sebum.
- Combination skin: Combination skin is characterized by an oily T-zone and dry facial skin.
“Normal” skin is characterized by fine pores, good blood circulation, a velvety, soft and supple texture, an evenly fresh and rosy color and few impurities. Dry skin, on the other hand, lacks natural moisturizing factors that bind moisture - especially urea, amino acids and lactic acid. Likewise, there is a lack of epidermal lipids such as ceramides, fatty acids and cholesterol, which are needed for a healthy skin barrier - this can impair the barrier function that protects our skin from external environmental influences.
Oily skin, on the other hand, produces too much sebum. Combination skin is a mixture. It has an oily T-zone (forehead, nose and chin), enlarged pores, possibly also impurities and normal to dry cheeks with a lack of lipids.

Determine skin type and skin condition
Unlike skin type, skin condition changes several times over the course of life. The reason for this: climate, air pollution, medication, stress, genetic factors that influence the amount of sebum, sweat and the skin's natural moisturizing factors, as well as skin care and the care products used.
While many teenagers suffer from oily skin, skin tends to become drier as we age. The slow aging process of the skin already begins in the late 20s. Our skin can store less water, sebum and sweat glands lose their power and the skin's ability to regenerate decreases - it loses volume and density and becomes drier. Therefore, proper care is extremely important from a young age. The care should always be individually tailored to you and your skin, because this is the only way to get a healthy glow and radiate from within!
With our skin test, experts in our own AVE & YOU laboratory in Berlin can put together your individual night and day care, tailored to your skin test results.
