Retinol vs Bakuchiol

Beauty active ingredient Bakuchiol: Like retinol - just better

Bakuchiol is the natural alternative to retinol. Here you will find everything you need to know about the active ingredient.

You certainly know retinol. It is a popular and effective active ingredient against wrinkles, refines the skin texture and also counteracts impurities. However, the synthetically produced active ingredient dries out the skin and often leads to skin irritations. Bakuchiol has a similar effect to retinol. The plant extract, on the other hand, is nourishing and well tolerated. Learn everything about the alternative to retinol now.

What is Bakuchiol?

Bakuchiol is of natural origin and is extracted from the seeds and leaves of the Indian babchi plant (Psoralea corylifolia).
While the active ingredient has long been used in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine, bakuchiol has only established itself in cosmetics since 2018.
Wrinkles, acne, enlarged pores: Like retinol, bakuchiol addresses different skin problems. However, the chemical structure of the two active ingredients is different. The plant-based bakuchiol is milder and triggers skin irritations much less frequently. In addition, the vegan active ingredient is insensitive to UV radiation, so you do not need to avoid direct sunlight when using it.

Effect of bakuchiol

Bakuchiol is a true beauty all-rounder and has a positive effect on your skin appearance in various ways:

1. Bakuchiol stimulates collagen formation

In terms of skin elasticity and tone, collagen is one of the most important proteins in our body. With age, the body's own production of collagen decreases, making our skin thinner and flabbier. Bakuchiol counteracts this process and ensures better collagen storage in our skin.

2. Bakuchiol is a powerful antioxidant

Environmental factors such as air pollution or UV light lead to oxidative stress and release radicals that damage our skin cells. Antioxidants are chemical compounds that reduce this oxidation in the body. The so-called radical scavengers act like a sponge that absorbs and eliminates toxic free radicals, resulting in smooth and supple skin.

3. Bakuchiol has an anti-inflammatory effect

The plant extract also brings anti-inflammatory properties. This makes Bakuchiol by simulating collagen formation not only ideal as an anti-aging care, but also acts to combat skin impurities.  The active ingredient reliably eliminates bacteria and has a soothing effect on the skin. As a result, inflammation heals faster, while new pimples are prevented.

For whom and how to use Bakuchiol

Due to its compatible and nourishing properties, Bakuchiol is suitable for all skin types and also for sensitive skin. It is used to combat premature aging of the skin and improves its appearance.

For visible results, Bakuchiol should be applied once or twice a day in the form of a cream or serum. The ideal concentration is between 0.5% and 1%.
