Face care in summer: How to make your skin shine like the sun

Do you have more pimples and oily skin in the summer? Or is it particularly dry at this time of year? We explain how you can adapt your skin care routine to give your face the best possible care in summer.

High temperatures and a bright sun put you in a good mood, but they also mean hard work for your skin.

On the one hand, it is stressed by the high UV radiation of the summer sun. A sun-kissed complexion may look beautiful, but unfortunately the UV rays damage your skin cells. This can lead to pigmentation spots and premature skin aging. In addition, the risk of skin cancer increases.

Secondly, you sweat more in the summer due to the high temperatures. This loss of fluid quickly leads to dry patches on your face. At the same time, your skin tries to balance the moisture balance by producing more sebum - the reason why your skin feels oilier in summer and is more prone to pimples.

Basically, your skin needs more moisture and less oil in summer than it does in other seasons. Here you will find tips and product recommendations for optimal facial care in high temperatures.

The be-all and end-all: sunscreen - but not just any sunscreen!

It may seem annoying at times, but it's the most important part of your summer routine: sunscreen.  In summer, this should be at least 30 SPF for your face, better still 50 SPF.

However, do not use your normal sunscreen for the body. It is much too rich, clogs the pores and quickly leads to blemished skin. Instead, use a cream or fluid specifically for the face and apply it as the last step in your skin care routine.

However, make sure you use a sufficiently high SPF.

Light textures prevent pimples in summer

Your skin needs extra moisture but less oil during the hot summer months. Your regular day cream or face oil may therefore prove too rich at this time and lead to blemished skin.

Better suited are light textures such as gels, fluids and water-based serums that nourish and moisturize your skin without weighing it down. When it comes to ingredients, hyaluronic acid, aloe vera and active ingredients from the skin's natural moisturizing factor family are particularly suitable.

Our recommendation: The light Hydration Boost Gel with aloe vera provides your skin with plenty of moisture, while the active ingredient niacinamide preserves an even, clear complexion. Perfectly suited for summer as well as oily and combination skin types.

If you don't want to do without your usual skin care cream, use less cream and massage it in extensively. Nice side effect: the small facial massage stimulates blood circulation and provides a rosy complexion.

Extra care for dry skin in summer

Some areas of the face are particularly stressed in the summer and need extra care. Since the skin in these areas is particularly thin, the eye area and lips dry out quickly in the heat, which can cause them to become chapped and small dryness lines to form.

Therefore, use a rich balm regularly in the summer to keep the lips supple. In addition, make sure that the care is equipped with a sun protection factor of at least SPF 15 to protect the delicate lip skin from sunburn.

The sensitive skin around your eyes is best cared for with a special eye cream. It is tailored to their needs and prevents burning eyes. Tap a small amount of the cream with the ring finger gently under the eye up to the cheekbone and under the eyebrow arch. Spare the upper eyelid in the process.

Summer freshness tip: Face spray

Face sprays are our absolute summer favorite! The fine spray mist from the bottle is not only a soothing refreshment on hot days, but also the perfect moisture booster to-go.

But that's not all: high-quality ingredients such as rose or thermal water also have a decongestant effect, soothe redness and counteract impurities. The perfect beauty weapon to keep your facial skin looking fresh and radiant in the summer.
